Religion
Religion instruction in kindergarten through second grade includes introducing students to the wonders of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Mary, the mother of God is also a primary focus along with the Saints. The importance of the Church and its teachings is discussed through our monthly visits from our school Chaplain. The children share knowledge from Religion class in Parish Sunday Masses through their education minute. The foundation laid in Kindergarten and first grade is essential for the preparation for second grade students’ reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Language Arts
The updated Integrated Language Arts program, utilized from preschool through third grade, emphasizes phonemic awareness, read alouds, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, a variety of assessment tools and methods, writing, penmanship, listening and speaking skills, and provides differentiated instruction at a variety of levels. Computer technology, learning centers and word walls are used to enhance writing skills. New desks allow students to work cooperatively in small groups.
Math
Our Math program incorporates learning in an active environment. The use of manipulatives, cooperative learning techniques and small group instruction enables the teacher to accommodate the children’s various learning styles. Math skills are introduced in a fun and educational way, authentic to everyday life.
Science and Social Studies
The science curriculum provides students with hands-on activities in the classroom and the science lab. The social studies curriculum allows students to develop an appreciation of their roles in their family, neighborhood and community. Each grade level participates in a service project that helps develop an awareness of the needs of others. Use of the Smart Board allows students to interact in the learning process. Class trips and presentations from members of the community reinforce classroom activities.
